Saturday’s fixtures served up drama across all three divisions, with goals flying in and late twists keeping fans on edge. The headline clash came at Astley, where Tarleton Corinthians edged a pulsating five-goal thriller thanks to a stunning hat-trick from George David Carrington. Elsewhere, Walmer Bridge put on a ruthless display, New Longton Rovers earned a narrow win, and Chipping staged a remarkable second-half comeback to cap a day packed with excitement and storylines.
PREMIERSHIP
Astley FC 2-3 Tarleton Corinthians
A cracking encounter saw Tarleton Corinthians edge Astley in a five-goal thriller. Adam Henshall and James Knott both struck for the home side, but it was the brilliance of George David Carrington that stole the show. The striker netted a superb hat-trick, finding the net in the 15th, 28th, and 52nd minutes to put Corinthians in charge.
Astley fought back hard, showing plenty of grit, but Carrington’s finishing proved decisive. The home crowd had reason to cheer through Henshall and Knott’s efforts, yet Tarleton held firm to claim a vital away win.
Eccleston & Heskin 0-5 Walmer Bridge
Walmer Bridge produced a ruthless display to put five past Eccleston & Heskin. Oliver Knight set the tone with a goal inside five minutes before Zak Deaves doubled the advantage midway through the first half. The visitors went into the break two goals to the good and showed no mercy after the restart.
George Caney extended the lead before Liam Goggin and Conor Ashe put the result beyond doubt. It was a complete performance from Bridge, who never looked troubled and sent out a strong message to their Premiership rivals.
Highgrove 2-2 Hoole United
Highgrove will be disappointed not to have taken all three points after a blistering first-half showing. Bradley Diamond opened the scoring on 15 minutes before Harvey Ogley doubled the lead just before the break. They looked in cruise control going into half-time.
But football can be cruel, and Hoole United staged a determined fightback. Adam Thomas pulled one back on 68 minutes, and Nathan Staines struck late on to earn the visitors a share of the spoils. A tale of two halves – and a lesson in taking chances.
DIVISION ONE
Marsh United Reserves 3-1 AFC Ainsdale
Marsh United Reserves showed sharpness in attack to dispatch AFC Ainsdale. Jack Benson got them up and running on 15 minutes, though Matthew Howard quickly levelled the scores. Just before half-time, Kian Wilson Stewart nudged Marsh back in front, swinging the momentum their way.
Benson struck again after the hour to secure the points. It was a lively performance from the hosts, with Benson’s brace the highlight of a deserved victory.
Middleton & Overton Sports FC 1-7 Tarleton Corinthians A
Tarleton Corinthians A put on an attacking masterclass to dismantle Middleton & Overton. Robert Lamont’s brace and Matthew Wignall’s strike had them well in charge before the bench made the impact. John Brothers added his name to the scoresheet, and Arran Blane came on to devastating effect, bagging a hat-trick.
The home side had little to cheer until late on when Jack Burba pulled one back in the 87th minute. By then, though, the damage had long been done as Tarleton’s firepower blew their opponents away.
New Longton Rovers 3-2 Astley FC Reserves
It was edge-of-the-seat stuff at New Longton, where the hosts squeezed past Astley Reserves. George Kelly opened the scoring before Christian Roach hit a double to put Rovers in command. But Astley refused to go quietly.
Oliver Small struck in the 22nd minute, and Jonathan Womar added another on the hour to keep the game alive. Rovers held on, though, to seal a narrow but significant home victory.
Wyre Villa 0-3 Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs Reserves
Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs Reserves were clinical on their travels, sweeping aside Wyre Villa. Charles Lunt’s opener just before the interval gave them a platform, and they pressed home their advantage late on.
Conor Bligh doubled the lead on 80 minutes, and Tomas Wright rounded things off with a third just two minutes from time. A controlled and confident performance from the visitors.
DIVISION TWO
Bay Rangers Reserves 2-7 Broughton Amateurs Reserves
It rained goals as Broughton Amateurs Reserves ran riot away from home. Oliver Jones and Ezzidin Omer both grabbed braces, while Collins Iheuko and Jonathan Gough – off the bench – also joined the party, with Gough striking twice.
Bay Rangers did at least get on the scoresheet through Alex Boland and Aron Jones, but they were simply overwhelmed by the visitors’ relentless attacking play.
Chipping FC A 4-2 Wyre Villa Reserves
Chipping staged a storming second-half comeback after trailing at the break. Nathan Wearden had put Wyre Villa ahead before sub Tyler Clark doubled the advantage after the restart. At 0-2 down, Chipping looked in trouble.
But Bryce Martland sparked the turnaround, and substitutes Ryan Wakins (twice) and Thomas Maidwell completed a remarkable comeback. A game that will be remembered for its dramatic swing in fortunes.
Hoole United Reserves 2-2 Appley Bridge Development
This one was evenly matched throughout, with both sides showing flashes of quality. Appley Bridge led through Kieran Craven after 25 minutes, only for Jon Rigby to level things up for Hoole.
Before half-time, Dylan Griffiths restored the visitors’ lead, but Joseph Westwood struck in the second half to make it all square again. A fair result in a contest neither side fully managed to control.
Lostock St Gerards Blue 5-1 Southport Trinity
Lostock St Gerards Blue turned on the style to brush aside Southport Trinity. Paul Farrow was the star, netting twice, while Jordan Murdoch, Daniel Rowland, and Oliver Snape also chipped in.
Eric Thompson pulled one back for Trinity, but it was scant consolation on a day when Lostock dominated from start to finish. A commanding win for the Blues.
Marsh United A 3-3 AFC Ainsdale Reserves
A thrilling six-goal draw unfolded between Marsh United A and AFC Ainsdale Reserves. Malakye Brooks had the hosts ahead inside 20 minutes, only for Owen Highton to equalise. The second half exploded into life as Daniel Martin restored Marsh’s lead before Brooks bagged his second.
But Ainsdale weren’t finished – Highton struck again, and Cieran Smith netted to ensure honours were even. A breathless encounter where neither side deserved to lose.
Shevington Reserves 0-4 New Longton Rovers Reserves
New Longton Rovers Reserves were ruthless in front of goal, running out convincing winners at Shevington. Ryan Cromie, Ben Jackson, Jack Lomax, and Zak Slater all found the net as the visitors cruised to victory.
The home side could find no answer to Rovers’ energy and movement, with the away side showing real depth and quality.
Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs A 4-2 Ribchester Rovers
Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs A kept their home fans entertained with a lively 4-2 win. Reece Coles opened the scoring before Kian Gilbert took centre stage, bagging a fine brace. Joshua Leddy added another to round off a strong display.
Ribchester’s Robert Adamson did his best to keep the contest alive with two first-half goals, but in the end, the hosts had too much firepower and ran out deserved winners.
