On a warm August evening, the first midweek round up of the season delivered a feast of football across all three divisions, with big wins, late drama, and standout individual performances lighting up Tuesday night. From Hoole United’s composed away victory to Standish St Wilfrids’ ruthless home display, and culminating in Shevington Reserves’ edge-of-your-seat seven-goal thriller, the action served up a perfect reminder that midweek fixtures can produce some of the most memorable moments of the campaign.
PREMIERSHIP
Burscough Dynamo 0-2 Hoole United
Hoole United showed their clinical edge on the road, dispatching Burscough Dynamo with a confident 2-0 win. Tobias Foster opened the scoring, setting the tone for a performance built on discipline and sharp finishing. The visitors kept Dynamo at arm’s length throughout, restricting their chances and controlling the tempo.
The three points were sealed in the 30th minute when Alfie Parker struck with precision, ensuring Hoole’s dominance was reflected on the scoreboard. From there, it was game management at its finest as Hoole shut up shop and left with a valuable away victory.
Standish St Wilfrids 4-0 Shevington
Standish St Wilfrids ran riot at home, dismantling Shevington in a one-sided contest. Ross Ellison struck early in the 15th minute to break the deadlock, before doubling his tally on 64 minutes with a composed finish that left the keeper stranded.
As Shevington tired, Standish turned up the heat. Adam Simpson powered home in the 77th minute, and Robbie Heaton’s late strike in the 88th wrapped up a ruthless display from the home side, who look like they mean business this season.
DIVISION ONE
Marsh United Reserves 4-1 Castle FC
Marsh United Reserves were in fine form, sweeping aside Castle FC with a convincing home performance. Alfie Askew was the star of the show, bagging a brace, while Jack Benson and substitute Ethan Markland joined the party with goals of their own. Castle battled hard, but the gulf in finishing quality was plain to see as Marsh took the points.
Tarleton Corinthians A 0-2 Astley FC Reserves
Astley FC Reserves produced a textbook away performance to claim a deserved win over Tarleton Corinthians A. Max Jackson broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, converting coolly after a well-timed run.
The victory was secured in the 75th when Luke Robinson pounced to slot home, ending any hopes of a late Tarleton comeback. A solid display from start to finish sees Astley climb the table.
Wigan Rovers 2-3 Standish St Wilfrids Reserves
In a five-goal thriller, Standish St Wilfrids Reserves edged past Wigan Rovers in a game full of twists. Rovers took the lead via an own goal in the 22nd minute, but Ben Flynn levelled things up on 35 minutes with a tidy finish. Substitute Jay Bramwell then put the visitors ahead in the 60th with an opportunistic strike.
Callum Bayliss pulled Rovers back into the contest in the 75th minute, but Standish had the final say. Jack Daunders struck in the 80th to complete a dramatic win for the visitors, who showed plenty of grit to get over the line.
DIVISION TWO
Bay Rangers FC 6-1 Bay Rangers FC Reserves
It was a day to forget for the Reserves as Bay Rangers’ first team ran riot in this intra-club clash. Leon Fitzpatrick, Liam Huddleston, and Leo Woodruff were all on target, with substitutes Scott Craven, Jamie Gardner, and Cameron McLeod adding further damage. James Eccles grabbed a consolation for the Reserves, but the gulf in class was evident.
Hoole United Reserves 0-5 Southport Trinity
Southport Trinity were ruthless visitors, dismantling Hoole United Reserves with a five-goal masterclass. George Holker set the tone with an early strike before Jake Pilkington took over proceedings, netting an incredible four-goal haul. The finishing was as clinical as you’ll see all season, and Hoole had no answer.
Shevington Reserves 4-3 Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs A
Shevington Reserves emerged victorious from a pulsating seven-goal battle. William Porter was on fire, netting in the 20th minute to open the scoring before doubling his tally in the 35th. But Southport & Ainsdale fought back, with Owen Kelly, Joshua Laddy, and Jensen Worsley finding the net to keep the contest alive.
With the game hanging in the balance, Dillon Green became the late hero. His 81st-minute strike put Shevington ahead, and he sealed the points with a composed finish in the 89th, sparking jubilant celebrations from the home crowd.
